The 1st Sunday after Pentecost, in the Church Year, is kept as Trinity Sunday. This is our “Feast of Title” celebrating the Trinity dimension of our joint Parish identity. (We celebrate our St. Paul identity each year on the Sunday closest to the Conversion of St. Paul, January 25th.) This is a great celebration of our Parish ministry of sharing the Faith with our contemporary world.

Pentecost celebrates the descent of the Holy Spirit on the Disciples and the Birthday of the Church Universal. Red is the color of the day for the flames of the Holy Spirit, and parishioners are invited to wear red. A section of the Gospel is read in many languages, symbolic of sharing the Gospel with the whole world. This is a great Baptismal Feast. And, maybe “red velvet” cake at Coffee Hour!

The Ascension of our Lord was past Thursday, May 29th. Lest most of us miss a major feast of the Church Year, we transfer the Feast to this Sunday. In our 2nd Lesson, St. Paul says that the ascended Jesus is “the fullness of him who fills all in all.” Our opening hymn (the tune “Truro”, #182, The Hymnal 1982) speaks of the ascended Christ: “Christ is alive! No longer bound to distant years in Palestine, he comes to claim the here and now and conquer every place and time.”
